General Settings — Default Language & Timezone
Tenant-wide defaults for language and timezone. These set the starting point for new users; each user can override both in their own profile, and their override always wins.
Where to find it
Admin → Settings → General Settings (requires the settings:update permission).
Default Language
The language new users start in (English or Français (Canada)).
- Open Admin → Settings → General Settings.
- Under Default Language, choose English or Français (Canada).
- Click Save.
| Field | Values | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Default Language | English / Français (Canada) | Applied to newly-created users who don’t specify a language. Existing users are unchanged. |
- A user’s own language choice (Profile → Language) always overrides the tenant default.
- Admin-created and invited users inherit this default unless a language is set explicitly at creation.
Default Timezone
The timezone used when creating ILT/VILT sessions and Zoom meetings, and as the display timezone for users who haven’t set their own.
- Under Default Timezone, pick an IANA timezone (e.g.
America/Toronto). - Click Save.
| Field | Values | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Default Timezone | Any IANA timezone | Session scheduling default + display fallback. Users can override in their profile. |
All timestamps are stored in UTC and rendered in the effective timezone (user override → tenant default).
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| ”Save” does nothing / permission error | Your role lacks settings:update | Ask an admin to grant the permission or make the change. |
| A new user is in the wrong language | They (or the invite) set a language explicitly, which overrides the default | Have the user change it in Profile → Language. |
| Existing users didn’t change language | The default only applies to new users by design | Existing users change it per-profile. |
