Learning Path Enrollment

A learning path is a layer above courses — an ordered sequence a learner works through. This guide explains how learners are enrolled in a path, how the linear locked-release works, and how to make a path self-enrollable from the learner catalog. How path enrollment works (linear locked-release)

When a learner is enrolled in a path — by an admin or by self-enrolling from the catalog — EmbayLMS:

1. Creates a path enrollment for that learner.
2. Enrolls them in the first required course of the path.
3. As each required course is completed, the next required course auto-unlocks (the learner is enrolled in it automatically).
4. When the last required course is completed, the path enrollment is marked completed (and, if configured, the path completion certificate is issued).

Optional courses (those not marked Required in the path builder) never gate or advance the sequence — they can be taken any time once the learner is enrolled.

Advancement runs automatically on course completion. A learner who is not enrolled in the path is unaffected — completing a course only advances paths they are actually enrolled in.

Enrolling learners (admin)

You can assign learners to a path from two places:

From the path editor → Enrollments

1. Go to Learning Paths → (open a path).
2. Scroll to the Enrollments section.
3. Click Enroll users, search for active users, select one or more, and Enroll.
4. The table lists every enrolled learner with their progress (completed required courses ÷ total required) and status. Use Unenroll to drop a learner (their underlying course enrollments are kept).

From a user’s profile → Learning Paths

1. Go to Users → (open a user).
2. In the Learning Paths section, click Enroll in path, select one or more published paths, and Enroll.
3. Unenroll or review progress from the same table.

Bulk and single enrollment run the same per-course guards as normal enrollment (enrollment window, seat caps/waitlist, manager approval, prerequisites). A learner who is already enrolled, or who can’t be enrolled in the first course, is reported and skipped — the rest proceed.

Letting learners self-enroll (catalog)

By default a path is hidden and not self-enrollable. To surface it in the learner Learning Paths catalog:

1. Open the path and set its Status to Published.
2. Check Show this path in the learner catalog.
3. Check Allow learners to self-enroll.
4. Save.

Learners see published, visible, self-enrollable paths under Learning Paths in the left nav, open a path to view its ordered courses (with locked / available / in-progress / completed states), and click Enroll in path to start.

Admins can always assign learners to a path regardless of these settings — the toggles only control the learner-facing catalog and self-enroll.
