Renew a Credential Before It Expires
Some courses — safety training, compliance refreshers, continuing education — award a credential that is only valid for a set time. This article explains how you can tell, what happens as the date gets close, and how to renew.
How to Tell If a Credential Expires
- Sign in and select Achievements in the top navigation bar.
- On the Certificates tab, look under the course name.
- If the credential has an end date, you will see Valid until [date]. Credentials without a date do not expire.
What Happens Before the Date
About a month before the end date (your organization may set a different lead time), three things happen:
- The certificate card shows an Expiring soon badge and a Renew button.
- The course is assigned to you again, with the expiry date as its due date. On your home page it appears under Renew your credentials, and the card reads Renew by [date].
- You receive a notification — in the app and by email — titled Credential expiring — renew.
Your existing certificate stays in your list. It is not removed.
How to Renew
- Click Renew on the certificate card, or open the course from Renew your credentials on your home page.
- Take the course again from the start. Your earlier progress was cleared so the renewal counts as a fresh completion.
- When you finish, a new validity period starts from your new completion date, and the badge disappears.
Turning the Notification Off
- Open your profile and go to Notification preferences.
- Find Credential expiring — renew and switch off email, in-app, or both.
The course is still re-assigned and still shows on your home page; only the notice is silenced.
Frequently Asked Questions
The badge says “Expired”. What now? The end date has passed. Click Renew and complete the course; your credential is valid again from the new completion date.
I renewed but the old certificate is still listed. That is expected. Each completion is its own record, so the old certificate stays as history alongside the new one.
Can I renew early? The Renew button appears once the credential is expiring soon. If you need to retake a course before then, ask your administrator.
