Learning Paths

Learning paths let administrators group courses into a structured, ordered curriculum. Learners follow the path step-by-step and receive a consolidated completion record for the entire path.

Prerequisites

• Role: Admin
• At least one Published course must exist before you can add it to a path

Create a learning path

1. In the left sidebar, navigate to Learning Paths.
2. Click New Learning Path.
3. Fill in the required fields:

4. Click Create. You are taken to the path editor.

Brand the path tile (cover image)

Path tiles in the learner catalog and on the learner Home get the same branded treatment as course cards: a customizable cover image plus the course count, estimated duration (sum of the courses’ durations), and — for enrolled learners — a progress bar.

1. Open the path in Learning Paths.
2. Under Cover image, click Upload and choose an image.
3. Save the path.

Require other courses or paths first (prerequisites)

A path can require any number of courses and/or other learning paths to be completed before a learner may enroll in it. The Prerequisites section sits below the path form; the full guide is Prerequisites.

Add courses to a path

1. On the path editor, tick courses under Available courses — each one joins the sequence at the bottom.
2. Use the ↑ / ↓ arrows on a row to set its order.
3. Use the Required switch on the row to say whether the course counts toward completing the path. It is on by default; switch it off to make the course optional.
4. Click Save.

The line above the sequence states the completion rule in numbers — for example 2 required courses of 3 — and updates as you flip the switches. Learners must complete every Required course to complete the path; optional courses are offered in the sequence, labelled Optional on the learner’s path page, and left out of the path’s progress bar (the N of M required courses complete line counts required courses only).

A course removed from the sequence and added again comes back Required — the default — so an accidental removal cannot silently turn a mandatory course optional. Changing a flag on a path learners are already enrolled in takes effect on their next visit: the advancement engine reads the flag live.

Before this switch existed, Required could only be set through the CSV importer’s path_courses.is_required column; the importer still honours it.

Publish a learning path

1. Verify all courses are added and in the correct order.
2. Click Publish. The path appears in the learner catalog.

Learning paths are presented inside the main Catalog alongside individual courses (LMS-662): learners see path tiles on the catalog’s All view and can filter with the Learning paths tab. There is no separate “Learning paths” menu item. A path is listed only when all three of these hold:

Navigate to Analytics to see per-learner progress on learning paths, including how many required courses each learner has completed.
