Teach Your Courses
When you sign in as an instructor, you land on Teach. It answers three questions at a glance: what am I running today, what is waiting on me, and how are my courses doing.
This article explains each panel and how to preview a course the way a learner sees it.
Opening Teach
- Sign in to your portal.
- Click Teach in the top menu.
If you do not see Teach, your account may not have an instructor role. Contact your administrator.
Today
The Today panel lists your next few sessions — today’s first, then whatever is coming up. Each line shows the start time, the session name, the course, whether it is online or in person, and how many people have registered.
A session starting within the next hour is marked Live in X min, and one that has already started is marked Live now. A session that has been running for twenty minutes is still shown, because that is exactly the one you might need to join.
- Open room appears on a live-or-nearly-live online session that has a meeting link. It opens the meeting in a new tab.
- Manage appears on every other session. It opens the session page, where you can edit details, see the registration list, and take attendance.
An admin can also name you the instructor of a single session in a course you do not teach. That session shows up here too. On its page you can see the registration list, take attendance and show the QR check-in code, but you cannot edit the session or the course. A note at the top of the page says so.
If you have nothing scheduled, the panel says so rather than showing an empty list.
You only see this panel if your role can view sessions.
Grading
The Grading queue panel shows one number: how many submissions are waiting for you to grade. Under it you see the date of the oldest one, so a submission that has been sitting for a week is visible without opening anything.
Click Grade now to open the grading queue: the Grading Queue section of the Call to Action page. When the queue is empty, the panel says so and there is no button.
Only questions that need a human — like written answers — appear here. Multiple-choice questions are graded automatically and never reach the queue.
My courses
My courses shows the courses you are assigned to teach. Each card shows the course cover, its status (draft, published, or archived), and three numbers:
| Number | What it means |
|---|---|
| Enrolled | How many learners are enrolled |
| In progress | How many have started but not finished |
| Completion | The percentage who have finished |
Click a card to open the course and edit it.
Why a course shows dashes instead of numbers: draft courses have no learners yet, so there are no statistics to show. A dash means “nothing to count”, not zero of something. The numbers appear once the course is published and people enroll.
If you have Course insights in the corner of this section, it opens the full analytics for your courses.
Preview as a learner
You can open one of your courses exactly as a learner would see it — the real player, the real modules, the real quizzes — without enrolling in your own course.
There are three ways in:
- From Teach, click Preview as learner.
- From Courses in Manage, click Preview on any course row.
- From a published course’s editor, open the Modules tab and click Preview at the end of the language tabs.
The course opens in the player with a banner telling you that you are previewing, and an Exit preview link that takes you back where you came from.
While previewing:
- Nothing is recorded. No progress is saved, no quiz attempt is stored, no SCORM attempt is created, no completion is registered, and no certificate or notification is produced.
- Your learners’ data is untouched. Previewing does not change anyone’s resume point or progress.
- Your own record is untouched too, even if you are enrolled in the course yourself. Preview behaves the same whether you are enrolled or not — it never reads your enrolment and never writes to it.
- You start from zero every time. The player shows no completion ticks and no progress, because that is what a learner meets on their first day. It is not showing you your own progress.
You can take a quiz in preview and see the score, including whether it would pass. The result is shown on the spot rather than on the results page, and it is not saved anywhere. Questions marked for instructor grading are counted separately, because no one can grade them in a preview. File-upload answers cannot be submitted in preview.
This makes preview safe to use as often as you like, including on a live course with learners in it.
Previewing a specific language
If your course is offered in more than one language, the Preview action on the course editor’s Modules tab previews the language whose tab is selected. This is the way to check a translation before you offer it: a language that is incomplete, paused, or not yet offered can still be previewed, and any module that has no content in that language yet falls back to the base language, exactly as it would for a learner.
Preview from the Courses list always shows the base language, because that list has no language selected.
When Preview is not offered
- On the course editor, Preview appears only on a published course with no draft version open. Preview shows what your learners are actually being served, and while you have a draft in progress that is not what they see. Publish the draft, or discard it, and Preview comes back.
- Anywhere, you need permission to edit a course to preview it. Being able to read a course is not enough, since every learner can do that. If Preview is missing, ask your administrator whether you are assigned to the course.
