How to Take a Quiz or Assessment
Quizzes and assessments help you check what you have learned. This article explains how to start a quiz, answer questions, see your results, and what to do if you need to try again.
Starting a Quiz
- Open the course that contains the quiz.
- Go to the module or section with the quiz.
- Click Start quiz (or Start assessment).
Some quizzes can be paused and returned to later. Others must be completed in one sitting. The quiz instructions will tell you which applies.
Question Types
You may see different types of questions:
| Question type | How to answer |
|---|---|
| Multiple choice | Click one answer from the list |
| Multiple select | Click all answers that apply (the question will say “select all that apply”) |
| True / False | Click True or False |
| Fill in the blank | Type your answer in the text box |
| Matching | Drag items on the left to match them with items on the right |
| Short answer | Type a written response |
Navigating Between Questions
- Click Next to go to the next question.
- Click Previous to go back.
- Some quizzes show all questions at once and let you answer in any order.
- If you are not sure about an answer, look for a Flag this question option to come back to it before submitting.
Submitting the Quiz
When you have answered all questions:
- Click Submit or Finish.
- You will see a summary of your answers and your score.
Make sure you are ready before you click Submit. Some quizzes do not let you change your answers after submitting.
Viewing Your Score
After submitting, the results page shows:
- Your total score (e.g., 85%)
- Whether you passed or failed (if there is a passing mark)
- Your answers vs. the correct answers (if the quiz shows this)
To see your score again later:
- Go to My learning and open the course.
- Find the quiz in the module list.
- Click on it to see your result history.
Retaking a Quiz
If you did not pass or if retakes are allowed:
- Go back to the quiz in the course.
- Click Retake quiz.
Each retake is a fresh attempt. Your previous scores are saved and you can see all your attempt history.
If you cannot retake the quiz: Your organization may have limited the number of attempts. If you have used all your attempts, you will see a message saying retakes are not available. Contact your administrator to request additional attempts.
What Happens If You Run Out of Attempts
If you reach the maximum number of attempts:
- You will no longer see the Retake button.
- Your highest score from all your attempts is recorded.
- Contact your organization administrator if you need more attempts. They can reset your quiz attempts from the admin panel.
