Validate Your Team’s Skills
People on your team can rate their own level on a skill. This is called a self-assessment. It does not count until you check it. This article is for managers. It explains how to validate or reject what your team has claimed.
Open the list
- Click Call to Action in the left menu. When something is waiting for you, the menu shows how many, for example Call to Action (2).
- Go to the Skill Validations section. You see every claim that is waiting for a decision.
You only see people in your team — the people who report to you, and the people who report to them. You never see your own claims. Someone above you, or an administrator, decides those.
If you do not see a Skill Validations section (or no Call to Action item at all), you do not have permission to set skill levels. Contact your administrator.
What each row shows
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Person | Who made the claim |
| Skill | The skill and its domain |
| Current level | The level they hold today, or None |
| Claimed | The level they say they have reached |
| Their note | Why they think so, if they wrote something |
| Submitted | When they sent it |
Validate a claim
- Click Validate on the row.
- Check the Confirmed level. It starts at the level they claimed. You can pick a lower level if that is what you have seen, but not a higher one.
- Add a note if you want — for example, observed on shift, September.
- Click Validate.
Their skill profile goes up to the confirmed level right away. They see that you validated it, with your note. If they already hold that level or higher, nothing changes on their profile.
Reject a claim
- Click Reject on the row.
- Write a short note that explains why. They will see it.
- Click Reject.
Their level stays the same. They can self-assess again later.
Good to know
- Other routes still count. A person’s level also goes up when they complete a course that teaches the skill, or pass a quiz linked to it. You do not need to validate those.
- You can also set a level by hand. On a person’s profile, under Skills, you can set or change a level directly. Use this for things like a certification they earned somewhere else.
- Everything is recorded. Every validation and rejection is written to the audit log.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The list is empty | Nobody on your team is waiting for a decision. Or your organization has chosen that only administrators decide; the section says so under its title. |
| ”We could not save that decision” | Another reviewer may have decided it first, or the person has left your team. Refresh the page — if the claim is gone, nothing more is needed. |
